When you made the decision to strike out on your own and open a clinic – or two - and grow with a team - you ultimately made the decision to become a leader. According to Ken Blanchard – “Anytime you seek to influence the thinking, behavior, or growth of people either personally or professionally, you are a leader.” Hard to argue with that – by that definition you are obviously a leader for your staff and your customers (patients) – what isn’t clear, however, is whether you are a good leader or a bad leader – or like Dorothy said “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?”
Our world is full of leaders, unfortunately the caliber of the leadership of the vast majority of them leaves a lot to be desired. Just look at the condition of the world around you. If you can stand it - watch the news for a few minutes and ask yourself how much of what you are seeing is the result of poor leadership. I believe that at our core we all like to play follow the leader – the sad truth is that there is a real void of authentic Servant Leaders that we would willingly throw our support behind. Or worse yet, we follow a poor leader with a warped vision and a corrupt set of values.
The world is in desperate need of better leaders and the best and most effective place to make the biggest and deepest impact - in the hearts and lives of people - is where they spend the majority of their time…at work. Not counting sleep, we all spend the majority of our lives at work – what better place to have the biggest influence?
In a world where more than 50% of the world’s largest economies are corporations it is obvious that businesses – large and small - are in a powerful position to influence the lives of their team members in a way that no other institutions can. With that power also comes immense responsibility. I have dedicated the rest of my life to help business owners in the health and wellness world to become not only good leaders, not only Servant Leaders – but certifiable Groove Enhancers!
It’s time to change the way business is done, the world needs a multitude of Groove Enhancers and the sooner the better. The stakes are too high to continue with business as usual. I define a Groove Enhancer (GE) as someone who is first and foremost a Servant Leader with a rebel spirit intent on transforming the way businesses are run by building a culture of love, simplicity, sophistication, sustainability, natural rhythms and a relentless pursuit of excellence and FUN!
Together the impact we can have on the world is almost immeasurable. But the challenge is not insignificant. We have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to become good technicians, diagnosticians, patient advocates, even savvy internet marketers that can build complex funnels within our software of choice. But how much have we invested in ourselves to be inspiring leaders of winning teams that love coming to work every day and believe deeply in the Purpose of our business and are guided daily by our vision and values?
